It’s June, what better time to release a photo series on snow-capped landscapes. The simplicity of Hungarian photographer Akos Major’s work and more specifically his series Lumen where snow laced landscapes are shot so beautifully it makes us wish for more of those snow-capped spells.
I’ve seen these type of landscapes before in photography but it’s the execution in this series that illustrates how Akos has managed to visualise silence beautifully. With such a sparse but painterly approach, the thoughtful composition hypnotises until photographic snow blindness ensues. Described as “muted happiness” by Akos, the desolate tranquility contrasts natural elements like skeletal trees and woodland animals against the harsher, industrial structures, alluding to man’s footprint in these serene landscapes.
