Over at The Hairpin they’ve dug out a letters page from the 1964 issue of Calling All Girls. In 1964, preteen girls liked fashion, sewing and recipes, but they didn’t like stories. Wait, no, a few of them did like stories, and crossword puzzles. In fact, if crosswords puzzles were all that was left on Earth, that would be fine for them. And pen pals! Party planning articles? Not so much.
