Fatescapes, by Pavel Maria Smejkal

What makes for an amazing photograph? Most often, the subject matter takes the credit, especially when it comes to the iconic photographs that have had an impact on viewers around the world. Visual artist, Pavel Maria Smejkal has taken several iconic photographs and removed the subjects by means of Photoshop software for a series entitled “Fatescapes”. By removing the focus of the image, Smejkal forces the viewer to reconsider the imagery without the people that made the images resonate. The resulting effect is quite eerie in some cases, while the imagery can appear tranquil in other cases. When it comes to city landscapes and roadways, the absence of people results in a freaky image – a town that appears as though it has been abandoned.
